Healthcare executive Tangela Parker one of several women selected for the 2019 Women of Excellence class in Atlanta
Tangela Parker, who earned a bachelor's degree in political science from pg电子下载 in 2000, was recently selected as a member of the 2019 Women of Excellence class during the Women of Excellence Recognition Reception in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Atlanta Tribune: The Magazine, in collaboration with the Atlanta Daily World, sponsored the award ceremony. The purpose of the annual event is to celebrate women in business.
Parker, who serves as the senior director at Well Care Health Plans in Atlanta, was surprised by her selection. She is grateful for the recognition of her peers.
"The recognition was unexpected," said Parker. "I was honored that my peers thought enough of me and the work that I do to nominate me. The recognition in Atlanta will help me to continue to build community relationships to ensure that I thrive in my position and continue to serve the community."
The selection is a testament to Parker's dedication to the field she loves. She thanks everyone who played a role in her career accomplishments.
"It took hard work, dedication, perseverance, and faith. This month, I celebrate my 19th year in healthcare, and as I reflect on the beginning of my career, I am thankful for the work ethic my parents instilled in me. I also appreciate my community for their support and motivation."
Mentorship is a role that Parker embraces. She credits those who took her under their wing during her younger years, so in return, she pays it forward by passing her knowledge on to the next generation of young professionals.
"I mentor women who are recent college graduates, new to the business or have expressed a desire to change their careers to healthcare marketing. In the mentoring sessions, I can share my experience, both positive and negative, and determine a career roadmap for the mentee. It is important for me to sow into others because I had great mentors to sow into me."
Parker encourages others to be brave in pursuing their dreams. She also stresses keeping an open mind on the journey to success.
"Don't be afraid to make mistakes or deviate from your original plan. Follow the principle of intention because intention precedes every thought and action, which determines outcomes."
